Jessica Dorcelien Staff Writer The Apex Men’s Varsity soccer season has begun with three straight conference wins and a four game winning streak as this year’s players and coaches strive to “Bring Back the Cup!” In the season opening games against non-Southwest Athletic Conference opponents, Apex scored a total of fourteen goals, an average of more than three goals per game. Apex’s attackers are led by seniors Will Tomlinson, Patrick Stingl, and the leading scorer of the season thus far, Cole Pena. Pena scored four of the seven goals in Apex’s 7-0 win against Holly Springs High School on Sept. 8. The defense is led by seniors, Sean McMurray, Ryan Heavner, Josh Foss, and Connor Carr. Alternating goalies, Corey Vodicka, Jean Andre Madrid and Alex Ramsey have only let on a combined 2 goals in 3 games since the beginning of conference play, In anticipation for the upcoming SWAC games, coaches Kevin Todd and Lee Oglesby combine their 30+ years of coaching to create an effective game plan. With six wins and one tie, Apex currently shares first place with rival school Middle Creek. The highly anticipated game will take place at Middle Creek High School on Sept. 28.
