Henry McKeand Editor-in-Chief and A&E Editor Motivation to Become a Teacher: Hampton has wanted to be a teacher since she was in the third grade. “I love seeing the reaction when kids finally get it,” she said. She also enjoys math, especially Algebra. Previous Teaching Jobs: Hampton first taught fifth grade in Gaston County. Then she moved to San Diego and taught high school for four years. She taught at Apex from 2006 to 2011 and was teaching at Salem Middle the last four years. Best High School Memory: Her time spent running cross country was her fondest memory from high school. She met her best friend in cross country and is still very close with her. “I loved being a part of something…it’s always a great group.” Favorite Restaurant: Irregardless Cafe in Raleigh Best Thing to do on a Rainy Day: She would watch the rain, especially the thunderstorms. “I'd open the windows or go outside, under cover of course, and just watch and listen.” Free Time Activities: Hampton enjoys running, yoga, swimming, and playing with her children. Favorite T.V. Show: Orange is the New Black Favorite Movie: Toy Soldiers How Apex Compares to Other Schools: Hampton loves Apex High. “I’ve been to other places and this is the only place that I’ve come back to. It just feels like home.” Teaching Style: “Coach Thomas shared a great quote: ‘They don't care what you know until they know you care,’” said Hampton. She hopes that her students know that she cares about them by building a rapport and letting them think for themselves.
