Ashton Baysden A&E Editor Teachers put forth so much effort in order to give students the best educational experience they could possibly receive. Students rarely take into account the hours of careful thought and planning that go into the lessons that they receive every day. Each teacher has a unique style of teaching, and that is what makes each educator important. However, once a year schools recognize a teacher that goes above and beyond for their students by giving them the Teacher of the Year award. This year, Apex High School has rewarded the honorable title to Ms. Erica Hoskins. Hoskins, the culinary arts teacher at Apex High School, is widely loved by all her students who could not be happier that she won the award. Senior Megan Hirst says, “She deserves it because even when you don’t believe that you can do something, she proves to you that you can.” It is values like these that help students to go far in life which is why it is so important that Hoskins never stops pushing her students to do their best. Her charisma and kind nature never fail to lift students’ spirits the moment they walk into her classroom. Junior Michael Laino calls Hoskins a “bold, outspoken leader with a passion for her profession.” The love she has for her job shines in the way she teaches her classes, and she goes above and beyond to provide a positive atmosphere for not only her students but also her fellow teachers. Other teachers at Apex High School are rewarded for their constant hard work with delicious treats at Cougar Café, all courtesy of her culinary students and her.
Hoskins continuously puts her all into being an incredible teacher for her students. Just being the culinary teacher is no easy task, but she is also the department chair of the CTE department and organizes prom each year. Hoskins spends months making prom a special night for those who attend. These extra steps are not required of her, but she still takes them anyway, and that is why Apex High School is honored to call Ms. Erica Hoskins the 2016 Teacher of the Year. Comments are closed.
