Amanda Dybal Staff Writer Randy Moncelle, history teacher at Apex High, recently retired from announcing football and basketball games. “Moncelle influenced many kids with his inspirational stories during his classes,” sophomore Madeline Rudd says. “He was a great teacher.” Moncelle has been announcing since 2004, and after twelve years, he has decided that “Apex High needs a ‘new voice.’” Moncelle has many fascinating stories from his years announcing. “I once did not understand the referee and why a ‘flag’ was thrown against Apex High- not thinking I had a ‘hot’ microphone I said, ‘Football is a mystery’ over the intercom.” That is just one of the many stories he has. When I asked Moncelle if he would still go to the games, his response was, “Of course I am a Cougar- old and gray, but still a Cougar.” He said he will be attending games during his free time. Also, Moncelle will be keeping the scoreboard for junior varsity and varsity home basketball games. He is honored to be a huge part of the Apex High school’s history
