Jessica Dorcelien Features Editor The voting has begun between the five finalists for the HighschoolOT.com Student Section Showdown. This year’s finalists are the Heritage Hooligans, the Leesville Road Loonies, the Millbrook Maniacs, the Panther Creek Catamount Chaos, and our very own Apex Cougar Crazies. Our submission came from seniors Grayden Beaufort, Buddy Gelston, and Garrett Hudson. The beat was produced by Beaufort, and the song was rapped by both Beaufort and Gelston while the video was filmed, edited, and produced by Hudson. Fans have until Oct. 17 at noon to vote for the best football student section. Votes for the Apex Cougar Crazies can be submitted through the HighschoolOT application or by texting “HSOT Apex” to 313131. Each year HighschoolOT.com hosts the Student Section Showdown, a competition that judges the high schools in the area and determines the best football student section. Last year’s 2015 competition opened the year for video submissions, a step-up from the previous written nominations. Last year winners were the Leesville Road Loonies, who beat out Heritage, Middle Creek, Leesville Road, Millbrook, and Panther Creek. The competition’s new idea of “show us” with a video, rather than “tell us” with a nomination had proven to work very well. This year, HighschoolOT.com took the competition up a notch by creating a new twist: the submission must be a rap battle.
The rules of the rap battle are that it must be at least one minute but no more than three, it must be uploaded and the link submitted by 11:58 p.m. on Oct. 8, the video must follow all copyright laws, there must be no inappropriate language or content, the video must be carried out by current students, and only one submission per school will be accepted. The winner of the showdown will be recognized at a future home game and will receive a championship banner and a trophy. Comments are closed.
