Cameron Goz Sports Editor Apex High Legacy recently conducted a poll on their twitter account, @ahslegacy, on who students favor in the upcoming election. The results were both shocking and despite a small sample size, representative of whom Apex High as a unit wants running this country. As shown above, Bernie Sanders pulled out an expected win over Hillary Clinton among the Democrats. Sanders is a left-wing candidate who is held high in young America’s eye, though Clinton continues to be favored to win the primary. The more shocking results come from the Republican side though as Marco Rubio pulled a stunner with 44% of the vote. Donald Trump was a close second while Ted Cruz fell all the way to fourth.
In reality though, Clinton towers Sanders in the Democratic race with over double his amount of delegates. Trump reigns supreme on the Republican side of this election, with Cruz trailing closely behind. John Kasich and Rubio have fallen significantly as well. Some of the various voices of Apex expressed their thoughts on the upcoming election. Senior Campbell Tarpey said, “Trump or Cruz at this point. I'm more of a fiscal policy man. I feel like social policies can take a back road in today's tanked economy.” Fellow senior Aidan Silverthorne chimed, “Agree with Sanders on most things, but his economic plan is kind of scary. He's not a she-demon, and he's not a snack-pack of butterscotch candies. He shows some passion.” The consensus felt Sanders’s passion was what propelled him above his competitors. Even teachers voiced their opinion, although anonymous, saying, “I’m having real problems (deciding). Some parts are easy... I like the Ohio gov. (Kasich) and Clinton though.” The election will be held Nov. 8 this year, and 2016’s seniors will be among the newest people at the polls. Let your voice be heard. Comments are closed.
