Apex High students celebrate end of the year with class shirts

Ten years from now, you will be digging through old clothes stuffed away in a drawer in an attempt to organize things.  You might come across an ugly neon shirt from a fad in freshman year, a shirt from some camp you have long since forgotten, but then you catch sight of one t-shirt, and a wave of nostalgia hits you.  A shirt from a class at Apex High School, a class that always brings back memories.

If you are lucky, you have had a class where a teacher or student took the initiative to make shirts for everyone.  Many classes here at Apex have had shirts to reminisce and remember the people and the course.  Throughout the semester, some classes nearly become a family and students bond over cute t-shirts with an inside joke or iconic design.    In most cases, a majority of the class order one and proudly wear it, even if they are graduating soon.  “It reminds me of this whole year of calc and the memories,” says senior Anam Navied.  “And I like to think that there will be people in college that get the calc jokes [on the shirt].”

What classes here have shirts at the end of the year?  It varies from semester to semester based on how close the class is, who bothers to come up with a design, and what memorable events may take place.  In AP U.S. History, individual students usually come up with a design and encourage other students to buy a t-shirt.  Every year, students in Calculus come up with a design together that they find funny and bond over math puns after a year of suffering.  This is Mr. Ferguson’s last year, so his Speech classes decided to make memorable shirts to celebrate his time here.  Some other classes that came up with shirts this year are French, band, sculpture, and strings classes.

Of course, the shirts are never free, but many feel that it is worth the cost of around $15.  This tradition has become more common recently because of how easy it has become to make a custom shirt online.  It is a fun way to bring the class closer and have a sense of belonging to something bigger, even if it is just a semester.  Do not feel left out if you have not had a class with shirts - suggest it to a class next year!  It is exciting to come up with the designs and remember the struggles of the class together, and most kids agree to pitch in.  In ten years, you may even decide to wear that shirt again and drown yourself in nostalgia.  Apex High School will always be a part of who we are no matter where we end up, so we may as well get as much memorabilia out of it as we can.
