Patrick LaLiberte Staff Writer An online scammer stole $500 worth of Apple gift cards via Bitcoin from an Austrian man named Christian Haschek. He did this by claiming that he had to make sure the gift cards were real and valid before paying. He even told Haschek that he could be a scammer, so he would not pay until he had the gift cards. Well, Haschek decided to trust this online stranger, which turned out to be a bad idea. Once Haschek had done his part of the deal and sent him the digital codes, the scammer used the vouchers right away and then claimed that the physical cards themselves had not been delivered; he had given Haschek a fake address. At this point, Haschek started to get nervous, fearing he had made a terrible decision. It was not until the scammer started to delete his accounts that Haschek knew for sure that he had been duped. Andrea Tyson Staff Writer Imagine being a model for a moment. You are posing for the camera, and before you know it, you are playing Twister trying to perfect each pose the photographer wants to see. You have to keep your smile big enough and your hair just right. You put in all of this work, but you know it still will not be good enough. You finish the shoot, and you are already being critiqued. Your waist is not small enough; your skin is not light enough; your muscles are not as defined as they should be. The question is, why are these things seen as flaws? Modeling may sound like an simple job, but you are putting yourself out there for everyone to judge you. Your body will be airbrushed and photoshopped to meet whatever standard of beauty others want to see. Who is to tell you what the standard of beauty is or tell you that you do not fit into that standard? Beauty is different to everyone, so nobody can tell you what the standard is. Ashley Graham is a plus size model who is defying the odds and embracing her body for everything it is including all the “flaws” she may have. Graham is a twenty-eight year old from Nebraska. Graham was discovered in a mall at the age of twelve by two scouts who jump-started her modeling career. Graham has worked in multiple areas of the industry including editorials, commercials, runways, film, and television productions. When she is not posing for shoots, Graham is a spokesperson for unconventional beauty. She travels to high schools talking to young women about the importance of self-acceptance, female empowerment, body image, and having a sense of self-worth. Graham is also a co-founder of Alda, a group of models who are trying to change the modeling industry to include a more diverse group of women. Throughout her career, Graham has made great strides in getting more diversity in the mainstream modeling industry. One of her biggest accomplishments was being the first “plus size” model to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition in 2016. It was no surprise that Graham broke the internet after posting a photo on Instagram showing her cellulite. Amelia Borger Staff Writer The Colonial Pipeline Company in Alabama discovered a break in a major pipeline on Sept. 9, and gas stations across the Southeast are starting to feel the effects of it. Various stations in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas are facing shortages of gas, closed stations, and inflated prices. Since Sept. 9, between 250,000 and 338,000 gallons of gasoline have spilled out of a pipeline near Helena, Alabama. The U.S. Transportation Department ordered that Colonial Pipeline Co. must conduct testing and analysis as to why the spill might have occurred in the first place. The gasoline that leaked from the ruptured pipe has been contained, and there was little to no damage to the surrounding wildlife. Colonial Pipeline has announced via social media that they are working towards building a bypass line, and it is expected to be up sometime later this week. The company has begun shipping “significant volumes” on the second of the two main lines to slow the impact of the rupture in the other line. In North Carolina, multiple stations have run out of gas, and prices are slowly beginning to rise. Four Sheetz locations in High Point, Greensboro, Fuquay-Varina, and Apex have closed down due to a lack of fuel, and two of those locations have no fuel except diesel fuel. One woman reportedly went to ten different stations in the cities of Raleigh and Durham, finally finding gas at the Exxon on Capitol Boulevard and Calvary Drive in north Raleigh. That same station, which was rationing to customers ten dollars’ worth of gas to every customer, ran out of gas by noon on Monday.
